“I wanted to give big Kudos to HH response to the problem we encountered that temporarily sidelined our new HH50. Both the factory and after-sales service team deserve to be complimented.
We damaged a critical component of our rig (of note due to our own operator error) on an early Saturday afternoon, only one week after initial recommissioning was completed. I was on the phone with members of the USA HH team within minutes, before we even returned to the dock. They initially helped us sort out the scope of the damage and helped us fully assess the situation.
By Saturday evening I was receiving emails and calls from the HH team including CEO Paul Hakes in China who was vital in sorting this issue out.
They were all not only giving me emotional support, as I was quite upset with myself, but also already working on solutions to help resolve our situation ASAP. Incredibly, all this company support on a weekend.
By Monday morning they were consulting with Marstrom composites in Sweden and had thought out of the box, and went way above and beyond to generate an efficient remedy for us. Within days we had a new complicated custom carbon manufactured spreader via expedited shipping to the USA. They also worked out all the yard and staffing details for the replacement. Throughout it all they were supportive, positive and incredibly helpful. They once again made me feel not only like a valued customer, but also like a friend. I don’t think you would find high levels of service like this with many other companies, let alone boat manufacturers. This personal attention is a real advantage of going with a smaller boutique boat builder like HH.
I share this story because I’m so pleased with HH Catamarans and their great staff. A great company with amazing employees. Fabulous customer service. And an incredible product. We love every aspect of our boat and feel lucky to have chosen the HH50!!!”
“For over four years we searched for the ideal boat that would enable the pursuit of our dream to circumnavigate as a couple in safety and comfort, while clocking 200 NM days on long passages. We had settled on the question of monohull versus catamaran after sailing extended ocean passages as crew.
Our first contact with HH was aboard HH66 R-Six at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2015. We had seen a number of catamarans and sailed multiple brands on extended passages before. We were deeply impressed by the modern design, the attention to detail and the exceptional workmanship of the HH product. At that moment we knew that a boat like this, albeit much smaller and affordable, was what we had been dreaming about. In the following years we visited boat shows in Annapolis as well as the shows in Cannes and La Grand Motte. We had seen the launch of the HH55 and we were anxiously waiting for HH to introduce not only a boat in the 50 ft range, but also one that was aimed at a cruising couple.
In May 2018, a month after we had reiterated our dream of an HH cruising catamaran, HH announced their Ocean Series with the OC50 as the entry model. A month later, we travelled to Xiamen to visit the HH factory, to meet the team and to see their state of the art facilities. Doing business in China was nothing new to me after doing business in Asia for over 20 years.
The access to specialists, the technical capabilities, willingness to listen, the opportunity to define and modify details to meet our needs and the open atmosphere convinced us that we had found the perfect partner to help us realize our dream.
In 2019 I visited twice to discuss details and explain specifics behind special requests. The flexibility and willingness to implement special requests set HH apart from other builders, especially in the 50ft range. Direct communication with specialists around the clock with almost instant response is a significant differentiator that allowed us to insert our ideas into the build process. I had planned to visit again during the finishing stages in 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic prohibited these visits. We stayed in close contact while the HH team kept us informed with pictures and detailed progress reports.
We took delivery of our OC50 SEABBATICAL in Barcelona. Commissioning was performed by the very skilled and dedicated team at EMV Marine Refit under the supervision of James Hakes, the Yacht Designer who worked on all the details of the HH50 and OC50 and son of Paul Hakes.
Sailing our new boat with friends, journalists and prospective clients has been pure joy. All our expectations have been met or exceeded in terms of performance, pointing upwind and handling. Our guests are impressed how quiet and easy SEABBATICAL glides above the water without splashes and the associated noise, and how fast the boat accelerates after a tack.
We are looking forward to many adventures in safety and comfort on the world’s oceans.”
An excerpt from katamarans.com Owners Review:
Why did you choose the HH50? Was it the finish, the performance or the upwind performance for example?
We wanted a boat that is both comfortable and has good performance. We want the best of both sides.
When was she launched? How was the build process?
January 2021. The build process happened during covid with no delays. It was transparent at every step. Excellent communication.
What’s the best thing about her?
Everything about this boat is the best. It’s truly exceptional, beyond our expectations.
If there was one thing that you would change, what would that be? Or wouldn’t you change anything?
A performance boat, at this level, takes skill to sail. We love the challenge. She expects us to be good. Be ready to become a good sailor on this boat. She requires it. No lazy sailors allowed!
Does she carry weight well, or do you have to be careful to not overload her with gear?
We don’t overload her. It’s our preference. Other owners carry more than we do. She can handle a lot. We just prefer not to. We do have plenty of toys, though!
What are the “Must Have” Options buying new in your opinion? eg Sails, watermaker, generator, solar, carbon options, push button sheet controls
There is never enough solar or red wine. Load up on both!
How is the after sales service from HH?
Unmatchable after service. The people who work for HH are the best.
How would you rate the Value for Money of an HH50, bearing in mind future re-sale potential, quality, price and so on.
Unmatchable. Period. My husband is a numbers guy. We don’t buy anything that isn’t a good investment. How many boats are a good investment?!

“Dear Hudson and Paul, I am writing this note to both of you, in recognition of the amazing sailing catamaran that you and your amazing team, have built for Kelly and myself.
To think that it has travelled over 3500 miles in 3 weeks after only 3 days of factory sea trials, arriving with only a requirement for a few minor tweaks, is testament to a very well-built yacht.
In essence, we are saying that Synergy V has exceeded our expectations.
For us the sailing qualities are paramount, and already it has delivered to a very high level of capability.
The finishes are immaculate. Every piece of equipment is first class. And the level of comfort and ambience is exemplary. The ability to customise the vessel to suit our taste and function is exceptional.
We are delighted that we went for the “S” version with a higher mast and increased North sail plan which is evident in light winds.
The lower revving, more powerful engines made for relaxed motoring when the wind gods were absent.
It was a pleasure working with James to design a new bimini which already has received praise and importantly, in our opinion, is a significant visual and functional enhancement.
We could not be happier with the amazing yacht that we now have moored in our home port, prior to setting off next year on our Pacific Island adventures.”
