CE Certifications
The process of CE certification shows that our boats are constructed to internationally recognized ISO standards which promote safety, reliability and high quality.
All HH Catamaran Yachts receive ISO & CE certifications.
All HH Catamaran Yachts conform to “Category A” for offshore yachts showing that the boat attains the highest level of seaworthiness, and is ready for offshore passages with peace of mind. The ISO standards are designed for recreational boats up to 24m (78ft) in length and encompass all types of crafts across many different levels. CE certification is essential for the sale of any product into the European market but is respected globally as a benchmark for quality for recreational boats.
The process of certification starts right away on the first day of design and it continues all the way through to launch as it is something that must be incorporated into every aspect of the boat.
From the structural requirements to the type of fuel hose, the thickness of the glass, right down to the size of the warning labels that must be displayed; any aspect of the design which impacts safety and seaworthiness is covered under the multitude of rules.
We have two partners involved in this process. IMCI are the certifying agency that issues the certificate on behalf of ISO and perform the inspections of the boat and Morrelli & Melvin design the structure to meet the rules.
The standards are generated by panels of experts in their fields.
As part of the boat's certification process, an IMCI inspector comes to visit our yard 3 or 4 times during critical construction periods to inspect the quality of workmanship and highlight potential problem areas. To support our application we have to supply 24 check lists, 45 drawings, 27 product data sheets, 6 test reports, 20 sets of supporting calculations, 100s of photos and 1 Owner’s Manual.
The standards are generated by panels of experts in their fields who have painstakingly created them over a number of years by committee. They are extensively peer reviewed and regularly revisited to ensure they are keeping up with modern technology and build practices. By using these standards you are effectively incorporating an extensive quantity of collective knowledge from some of the best minds in their field.
Two vital standards that must be met are ISO12215, which designates the structural requirements for the vessel and ISO12217-2, which lays out the minimum stability requirements.
For any of our boats that are to be flagged in the USA, ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) certification is an essential requirement. Although CE does incorporate a standard for electrical wire sizing and specification of electrical components, it is a lower specification than the ABYC equivalent. Therefore we choose to build and match the higher standards of ABYC to ensure that our clients are free to register their boat anywhere in the world.
